Marie Torstensson, who represents FUB, an association of interest for the mentally challenged, as well as the Neuro Association, was one of those who had gathered to manifest.

- We do not think that disabled people receive the help and support they need, she says.

"The legislation was loving"

More specifically, the protesters believe that LSS (the Law on Support and Service for Some Disabled People) has lost its humanistic core over time.

- The legislation was loving and caring when it was founded in the mid-90s but now it has become tough and square, says Marie Torstensson.

After a short gathering at the Larm Square, they marched to the Cathedral under silence. According to the protesters, the silence symbolized the government's silence on the issue of the disabled.

There are no shortcuts according to the Minister of Social Affairs

SVT News Småland has been in contact with the Government Offices and Social Minister Lena Hallengren (S).

- LSS and assistance are far from our entire disability policy, but when LSS does not work, the rest will not work either. Today it is so, the assistance does not work well enough. We have been there a little too long. Therefore, it is my priori one, two and three this term to get the assistance to work well again. I have all the respect for all of you who are frustrated and think it takes too long, but there are no shortcuts to redoing laws, Hallengren writes in an email to SVT.
