In Russia, a gigantic gas pipeline was inaugurated this Monday, December 2: more than 2000 kilometers long, between Siberia and the Chinese border. "Siberian Force" is the name of this gas pipeline, which will allow Russia to deliver gas to the Chinese, within three years.

This is a gigantic project and the contract that goes with it is equally impressive: in the long term Russia hopes to deliver nearly 40 billion cubic meters of gas each year to its Chinese neighbor, which would bring him a whopping $ 400 billion. dollars over thirty years. From the Siberian gas fields to the Amour River, which marks the border between the two countries, 2,000 kilometers of pipes have already been installed.

For now, it is the Russian section that has been completed, and it will be until 2023 for China to enjoy. Russian gas can be delivered to the city of Shanghai. The objective for Russia is obviously to win a very important market, but also to diversify its markets, because, for the time being, most of the Russian gas is sold to Turkey and to European countries.

Finally for Russia, these deliveries of gas are not only a source of currency, but also of course a diplomatic instrument. In the eyes of Vladimir Putin, this gas pipeline embodies the " turn to the East " that Russia was forced to take following Western sanctions.
