Berlin (AP) - Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) meets today in Berlin with representatives of about 40 agricultural associations and organizations.

With the "Agricultural Summit", the Federal Government is also responding to protests against planned new regulations for the protection of insects and stricter fertilizer regulations.

Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner (CDU), which participates in the meeting, had previously agreed to include the farmers in other environmental regulations. Last week, thousands of farmers from all over Germany demonstrated in Berlin against the government's agricultural policy and demanded more social appreciation for their industry.
