Interviewed by Ayman Fadilat-Amman

In a corner of the Qurtuba Omani Cafe on Al Sahafa Street, the poet Ayman Al-Atoum spends his hours traveling between the papers, pens and notebooks.

Each year, Al-Atoum publishes two books, which is the secret of his work, one of which he celebrates at the Amman International Book Fair, and the other in Cairo.

His latest novels were published on September 26, "A Mighty Day," in which the hero of the story was the commander of the Battle of Eternal Dignity, which marked Jordan's first victory over the Israeli occupier.

In sitting with the otom is a pleasure.

His poetic book "The Prophecies of the Hungry" is one of his most famous books, especially that his poems in this office were written inside the prison, and issued after his controversial novel "O the owners of the prison," and says in one of his poems:

From the darkness of the prison, but from the light of my faith and blood, but from the bleeding nationwide

I wrote my poetry, my mother, on paper that I prepared in tomorrow's days

The poet and novelist Ayman Al-Atoum was born in Jordan in 1972 and holds a PhD in Arabic from the University of Jordan in 2007. He has published 12 novels, including "My Prisoners", "Hearing Her Sense", "Taste of Death" and "Hadith" Soldiers "," The Word of God ", and" Nafr from the Jinn ", in addition to five poetry books, including" The Prophecies of the Hungry "2012," My Heart is My Love "2013, and" Take Me to the Al-Aqsa Mosque "2013.

Al-Atoum recounted in a "witnessed day" the story of the victorious Jordanian leader Mashhour Al-Jazi over the Israeli occupier (Al-Jazeera)

She met Al Jazeera Net Al-Atoum and held a dialogue with him in which he considered that we live in the era of the novel, because it is an extended plain and the hair of the elite.

He said that he writes for resistance and revolution because they express themselves rejecting injustice and tyranny, while writing for spinning and love, and described himself as "a human lover slaughtered from the vein of the vein."

Atoum said that the prison opened the door to the absolute, and the window on the vast space, and narrated in the "witnessed day" the story of the victorious leader Mashhour al-Jazi on the occupied enemy, to dialogue:

Growing up and turning point
From a house known for literature and the father of a poet and scholar of language, and from studying engineering to Arabic, and then a year in prison experience "political prisoner", where did the poet Ayman al-Atoum began his literary life, and what is the important turning point in his life?
I grew up in the arms of books, and I grew up in a loving environment of literature. My father, Dr. Ali Al-Atoum, is a scientist in language, grammar, and ignorant poetry.

When I grew up there were many great transformations in my life, the most important of which was the prison that opened the door to the absolute, and the window on the vast space, as in prison I knew how to revert to myself and I know and talk to myself and how to accept the other.

I saw the shadows of death imposing on the faces of those sentenced to death. The prison was a stepping stone to a broader horizon.

The second turning point was my study of the Arabic language after studying engineering, Arabic is an arena. There can be nothing ahead of Arabic, neither engineering nor medicine nor the whole humanities.

The other turning point is my relations with the general public across the Arab world from east to west, and this relationship gave me the idea that the Arab public reads if it finds something that touches itself, its concerns, dreams, hopes and pains, so I started from this point to become more widespread and wide across the Arab world.

Latest novels
Al-Otoom's latest novels, "Mashhad Day", issued last September this year, put us in the story of the novel, and who is the hero?
"Mashhad Day" is the 12th novel in the order of my novels. It talks about its hero, the famous military commander, Haditha Al-Jazi, who was born in 1928. He fought our most important wars with the Zionist enemy in 1948, the Palestinian Nakba.

He was a witness to the 1956 war, the 1967 war, the June setback, and the commander of the 1968 battle in which the Jordanian army defeated the Israeli enemy.

A memorable day for Ayman Al-Atoum (Al Jazeera)

The novel speaks of this man, his heroism, magnanimity, his life and his start as a Bedouin in the desert, how he polished the desert, and how he made him a loving man for his homeland giving a defender with all he can.

The novel clearly stops at the Battle of Dignity in 1968, how he managed to turn defeat into victory, humiliation to Azza by training his army and his comrades on arms, and through his free will to make the decision to win without referring to those who pressed him, and was a historic decision to continue the battle without acceptance Truce with the Zionist enemy until victory in the battle of eternal dignity.

The novel entered Jordan in September during the Amman Book Fair and spread, but then was stopped and banned circulation in Jordan, and returned to the source of printing in Egypt.

The novel is an integral part of our honorable history, we Jordanians and our Arabism, and its value that if man has the free will he can submit and achieve victory in various fields.

Poet or novelist
He dominated the literary production of the Doom novels, yet defines himself as a poet. Does poetry die and become an elite text while the novel spreads and gains an increasing audience?
We live in the age of novel and poetry, but the novel also poetry, my novels where poetry, and wrote poetry within the novels, and prose poetry rhyme poetry and weight, in addition to citing poetry in all my novels.

I present myself as a poet more than a novelist, and my poetry is not dead, and I have five poetry collections, but they are not famous because of the lack of demand for poetry.

Poetry has the advantage of relying on condensation, one house may be scattered on a chapter in the novel, and readers do not like condensation, because the poetry of the elite, the novel easy extended, while poetry is difficult mountain.

I always cite the example between Nizar Qabbani and Reza Ashour, Qabbani summed up Granada in twenty houses when he said:

At the entrance of Al Hamra, our meeting was the best ever

Ashour, a well-known Egyptian novelist, needed a 600-page trilogy to talk about Granada.

Why did not Alatom published his theatrical works? Or why did you stop writing drama?
I have three plays, "Homeless" poetry, "Kingdom of Poetry" on Mutanabi prose poetry, and the play "City does not die" about the city of Jerusalem and the conditions of its Jerusalemites, and unfortunately not published.

The reason for this is that I do not present myself as a playwright, I do not apply to Tawfiq al-Hakim, Saad Allah, Nous and others, but I may try in the future.

Islamic character
Ayman al-'Atoom's literature is predominantly Islamic, and he chooses the titles of his novels from the verses of the Qur'an.Al-'Athum is aimed at a certain Islamic audience, or is he writing to all readers?
I do not have a certain Islamic, leftist or populist audience.I write for all people.I address people's concerns and humanitarian issues.I write about immortal values. When I talk about the confinement of freedom in my novels about prison, this matters to anyone. There is no one who agrees to imprison his freedom.

I am open to the other, on your way to God you must know the devil because it will guide you to God, and I do not introduce myself that I am an Islamic writer, because in return there will be literature infidels, and when the literature is religious? Literature values, language, image and imagination.

"The Prisoners of the Prison" (Al Jazeera)

Love, spinning and adoration .. Where does the reader find it in the novels of the otom?
I wrote in love, spinning and adoration, I am a human lover slaughtered from the vein of the vein, and wrote in my novel, "O prison friends": In love planets revolve around their orbits and centers, and if not for love, the planets collided with each other, and in love the water runs by the river, and without the love to dry water from the river.

"The Word of God" is a dialogue of religions, but its content is a true love story at university between a Christian girl and an enlightened Muslim, who managed to convince her of Islam, but the end was tragic after her father killed her.

The novel "Taste of Death" is the story of love leading to death, and talks about the philosophy of love, death and freedom between the young confident, and his beloved Mona.

Literary criticism
Where literary criticism of the work of novelist Ayman Al-Atoum?
There are about thirty critical letters at the level of the Arab world examined the work of Ayman Al-Atoum, whether poetry or novels, the latest master's thesis in Saudi Arabia last month.

A critical book titled "Glow of Lamps" by Dr. Siddiq Bashir Nasr from Libya, studied my novels and delves into the novels "empty" and "O the owners of the prison", and deepened in the novel "nineteen" to cover deep philosophy.

It proved to be a philosophical narrative of post-death, which Dante went to in the "divine comedy", and Abu Alaa al-Maari in "Corruption of Forgiveness", John Milton in "Lost Paradise", and imagine life after death.

The cover of the novel "Hear the senses" (Al Jazeera)

Do you have the intention to go for literary criticism?
I have a lot of cash work for more than fifty studies, theory and critical work, if I collected it would have become a book, but I did not publish it, because our criticism is lackluster, and celebrate criticism faint.

Cash is a health condition of accepting the other, but unfortunately the policy of accepting the other does not exist.

Resistance .. Permanent present
Resistance and revolution are always present in the literature of the otom, although the voices of them have diminished, why insist on invoking the revolution and resistance in the novels?
Compass is unchanged and the principle is indivisible. Reconciliation with the Jews in my literature is forbidden before and after the Jordan-Israel peace treaty. The principle is indivisible. I wrote the novel "Asma Ahmad" about the hero Ahmad al-Daqamseh as an example of the principle of resistance.

And Iyad Asaad in the novel "hear their senses" and the principle of fighting injustice and not to bow to him, and the leader is famous Jazi speech in the "witnessed day" on the insistence of victory for the idea of resistance to the occupier he carries.

The resistance to injustice must be kept, and the principle of revolution against tyranny is always present.
