The Var and the Alpes-Maritimes are again in red alert, just 6 days after the bad weather that has already hit the region. Heavy rains are raging again in the two departments of the Southeast. The mayor of Mandelieu-la-Napoule (Alpes-Maritimes), Sebastien Leroy, was on Europe 1 Sunday to testify.

INTERVIEW

The inhabitants of the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes hope not to relive the meteorological calvary last weekend. The two departments are again vigilant red due to unprecedented bad weather. The mayor of Mandelieu-la-Napoule (Alpes-Maritimes) testified on Europe 1 Sunday.

Heard on europe1:

We were there just 6 days ago in an already unprecedented situation with two streams that have overflowed simultaneously and there we are again vigilant red.

It describes "a state of maximum alert" with "very very heavy precipitation" even if, for the moment, the rivers have not overflowed, unlike last weekend. "What happens is completely new, says the elected, we were there just 6 days ago in a previously unheard of situation with two rivers that have spilled over and there we are again vigilant red, with soils saturated with water, high rivers and a rainy phenomenon that resembles that of October 2015 ".

Since Sunday morning, thanks to the deployment of the ORSEC plan, residents have been evacuated and relocated to avoid any tragedy. The ORSEC (Organization of Civil Security Response Organization) is a departmental disaster relief program. As a reminder, in early October 2015, exceptional weather had killed 20 people in the Alpes-Maritimes.
