The Tunisian Interior Ministry announced that 22 people were killed and more than 20 injured when a bus carrying students on a tour to the city of Ain Draham was overturned.

The ministry said that the bus, which was carrying 43 people, fell in the course of a valley in the region of Amdoun of the governorate (Beja) northwest of Tunisia, noting that it fell after crossing an iron barrier.

A spokesman for the Tunisian Civil Protection Department, Moez Tereia, said in a statement to the Tunis-Africa News Agency on Sunday that the outcome of the incident was preliminary, noting that the injured were taken to the regional hospital in Beja and the local hospital in Amdoun to receive the necessary aid.

Immediately after the incident, feelings of grief and anger spread among users of social networking sites in Tunisia.While a number of them were quick to publish pictures of the incident and videos documenting the magnitude of the disaster, others merely in solidarity with the families of the victims, blaming the state inaction in the maintenance of these rugged mountain roads.
