Police used tear gas on Sunday (December 1st) in Hong Kong to disperse thousands of anti-government protesters. The short lull in the region this week has been going on.

Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters gathered on Sunday, Dec. 1, in the commercial district of Tsim Sha Tsui, and several hundred people took the path to the US consulate to express their " gratitude " to the United States, who gave massive support to the movement.

Reuters news agency reports that police fired tear gas at protesters marching on the Kowloon Corniche, an area housing luxury hotels and shopping malls. The security forces of the special administrative region made arrests.

This week, the city was relatively quiet, following the unequivocal victory last Sunday of pro-democracy candidates in district elections, a local poll. More events are planned throughout next week. Appointment is made December 8 with a large gathering.
