From November 22 to 30 one of the most important festivals of Italian cinema went on stage: 197 films were presented in competition, of which 142 feature films and 45 world premieres.

The jury chaired by Cristina Comencini and composed of Fabienne Babe (France), Bruce McDonald (Canada), Eran Riklis (Israel), Teona Strugar Mitevska (Macedonia) awarded the Best Film Award (€ 18,000) to ' Hvítur, hvítur dagur a white, white day 'by Hlynur Pálmason (Iceland / Denmark / Sweden).

The Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation prize of 7,000 euros went to ' Le rêve de noura ' by Hinde Boujemaa (Tunisia, France, Qatar) while Viktoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina won the Best Actress award for the film ' Dylda / Beanpole of Kantemir Balagov '(Russia).

The award for Best Actor went to Giuseppe Battiston and Stefano Fresi for the film ' Il grande passo by Antonio Padovan ' (Italy); the award for Best Screenplay was awarded to ' Wet Season ' by Anthony Chen (Singapore / Taiwan). The Audience Award went to ' Ms. white ligh t' by Paul Shoulberg (United States).

The International Jury composed of Sara Fattahi (Syria), Vladimir Perisic (Serbia), Erik Negro (Italy), then awarded the following prizes: Best film for Internazionale.doc (6,000 euros) to: '143 rue du desert 'by Hassen Ferhani (Algeria / France / Qatar). "A humble observation of changes in space and time. With Malika and the gaze of the director we dive into an unpredictable socio-political journey through the heart of the desert", reads the motivation for recognition. The Special Prize of the jury for Internazionale.doc went to 'Khamsin' by Grégoire Couvert and Grégoire Orio (France) since it is "an attempt to understand the past through art in order to reinvent a possibility of the future", as the motivation states.

The Italian Jury.doc composed of Eleonora Mastropietro (Italy), Pippo Mezzapesa (Italy), Annina Wettstein (Switzerland) has awarded the following prizes: Best film for Italiana.doc (6,000 euros) to: "Fuori tutto" by Gianluca Matarrese "for the courage and freshness with which the director creates an intimate story, making the drama of his family the emblem of a rampant economic crisis". The Special Prize of the jury for Italiana.doc went instead to 'The Apprenticeship' by Davide Maldi since it is "a training story within a closed universe, capable of condensing visual strength, delicacy and paradox" .

The Italiana.Corti Jury formed by Elia Billoni (Italy), Monica Strambini (Italy), Lucio Villani (Italy) then awarded the following prizes: Best Short Film Award (€ 2,000) to 'Spera Teresa' by Damiano Giacomelli which is a "scratchy and sophisticated reflection on the transience of the present in relation to the camera battery". The Special Jury Prize went to 'La buca' by Dario Fedele "for the ability to tell the vitality of those who wait, despite the impossibility of filming".

The Jury composed of Francesco Grieco (Italy), Diana Martirosyan (Armenia), Heidi Strobel (Germany) has awarded the Fipresci Prize (Award of the International Film Press Federation) for Best Film to: 'Le rêve de Noura' by Hinde Boujemaa (Tunisia, France, Qatar), "for its realistic atmosphere and its truthful, stubborn, clear and suggestive history, filmed in a specific and marginal place; the film deals with global problems regarding choice, freedom, responsibility and conservative social conventions , which are also based on simple and basic human needs as well as on the foundations of every society: rivalry, happiness, dominion ".

The Jury composed of Altan (Italy), Paolo Mereghetti (Italy), Cosimo Torlo (Italy) has awarded the Cipputi Prize 2019 - Best film on the world of work to: 'Ohong village' of Lungyin Lim (Taiwan / Czech Republic). "Lungyin Lim - reads the motivation for the award - compares the two sides of the work in his film: the hard and exhausting one of those who struggle every day to earn a living and the gratifying and dreamed one of those who would find their way to wealth Thus the son of the poor fisherman who returns to Taiwan from China after pursuing the myths of success and money becomes the instrument of a confrontation where dreams have to deal with reality and the sirens of gain hide defeats and disappointments ".

As for the Water Cinema Award ', First edition of the competition for Italian short films organized in collaboration with Qc terme, the jury composed by Marì Alberione (Italy), Sandro Avanzo (Italy), Alessandro Bolis (Italy) decided to assign the "Cinema D'Acqua" award for the best film of € 1,000 to 'Apollo 18' by Marco Renda, "for the ability to celebrate the past and talk about the present, seeing water as an element of encounter, communication and sharing" .

The jury composed by Fabio Geda, Rossella Schillaci, Francesco Ghiaccio, decided to assign ex-aequo the 2,500 euro Turin Factory Award to: 'Manual of cinema stories' by Stefano D'Antuono and Bruno Ugioli "for the meticulousness of the research historical, for the ironic but emotionally charged tone that holds the story together, remaining coherent until the last frame and the final greetings.For careful editing that keeps the exposure high, effectively capturing the viewer's attention " , and to 'Selene' by Sara Bianchi "because the director has been able to suggest in an evocative way an intimate and painful story, able to excite with delicacy, evoking the experience of the protagonist with rapid and eloquent brushstrokes. For good photography, care in shots and the narratively effective use of editing ".

The 38th edition of the Turin film festival will take place from 20 to 28 November 2020.
