The construction of the Olympic stadium in Tokyo has been completed, its sponsors have assured Saturday, and the building is ready to face the high temperatures in the summer of 2020 thanks to a design designed to cope with it.

"The new story will begin," the Japan Sport Council said on Saturday, marking the end of work on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Stadium, which is estimated to cost 157 billion yen (1.3 billion euros).

The heat of the Japanese summer is one of the main concerns of the organizers of the next Olympics, after doctors have warned of the risk of serious medical consequences.

The 60,000-seater stadium, designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is inspired by traditional techniques, including significant use of wood.

Nearly 2,000 cubic meters of cedarwood were shipped from all over Japan to allow, among other things, the manufacture of sails honoring the 1,300-year-old pagoda of Horyuji Temple.

185 large fans and eight foggers were also integrated into the stadium to limit the inconvenience caused by the temperature, which can exceed 40 ° C in Tokyo.

The Olympic Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as track and field events and some football matches.
