Employees of LSG, the refueling service of many airlines, including Germany's Lufthansa, are called to strike Monday to obtain wage guarantees, said Saturday the Verdi union.
The 35,500 employees of LSG, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, part of which is to be sold to the Swiss Gategroup, are called to a 24-hour strike on Monday, said Verdi in a statement.
Monday's strike should, according to Verdi, lead to cancellations and delays, especially in Frankfurt and Munich. "Long-haul flights will be particularly affected," Verdi said.
The world's leading airline catering group, last year LSG generated revenues of 3.2 billion euros, more than 75% of which were from customers other than the Lufthansa group.
The company provides refueling for the group's flights, but also for some 300 other companies, including United Airlines, American Airlines and LATAM, as well as "several" railway companies. It provides about 700 million meals each year.
The union is demanding that Lufthansa guarantee the salaries of some of the employees before the sale to the Swiss group. A new negotiating session is scheduled for Wednesday in Frankfurt.
