Cottbus / Leipzig (AP) - Climate activists want to demonstrate on Saturday in the Lausitz and in the Leipzig lignite coal mine for an immediate coalition exit. The police are deployed with forces from several federal states.
The alliance "Ende Gelände" had announced in advance that it would block opencast mines and power plants. There are concerns in the region that violence can occur. The goal of the Federal Government is a coal exit by 2038.
The Coal Enemies of Ende Ende had tweeted that their actions would not be directed against the people who lived in Lusatia or worked for Leag or the police. More than 20 vigils and meetings are registered in the Lausitzer district, including in Cottbus, Jänschwalde and Welzow. Climate activists also want to protest in the Leipzig district with vigils, chains of people and blockades.
