Hallstatt (dpa) - In the popular tourist resort of Hallstatt in Austria, a fire has damaged four buildings. According to the Austrian news agency APA, the fire broke out in a wooden hut and attacked another shed and two houses.

The residents of the houses were able to get to safety in time, but a firefighter was injured in the operation. Why the fire broke out around 3:30 in the World Heritage Site, was initially unclear.

Hallstatt is famous for the oldest salt mine in the world. In the village on the same lake live about 780 people. Every year more than a million day visitors come to visit.
