In Brazil black organizations are outraged by the appointment of a new president of the Palmares Foundation, an organization that has been defending black rights in Brazil for more than 30 years, claiming that there is no " true racism " in Brazil.

The Secretary of State for Culture of the Bolsonaro government has just appointed Palmares Foundation Sergio de Camargo, a journalist who claims that racism does not exist in Brazil and that blacks must stop posing as victims. Activists of the black cause demonstrated Friday, November 29 in front of the headquarters of the Foundation Palmarès in Brasilia.

The appointment of Sérgio de Camargo at the head of the Palmarès Foundation is felt as a provocation. His comments on social networks have triggered controversy: he ensures for example that there is no " true racism " in the country but, he says, a " Nutella racism ".

In Brazil, more than half of the population is Black or Metis, but blacks are overrepresented among the poor and victims of police violence, according to official figures.

But according to Sergio Camargo, those who complain are " idiots misinformed by the left ". The new president of the Palmarès Foundation hopes that blacks stop posing as victims.

He also opposes the quota policy that favors black people's access to higher education. Blacks have become the majority in public universities this year, and this for the first time.

He virulently attacks Marielle Franco, a political activist murdered in Rio last year. And he wants some black artists who criticize him to be, he says, sent to Africa. " I suggest Congo. And they stay there! "He says.
