“The document will improve the procedure for fulfilling military duty by citizens of Ukraine, implement the introduction of new military ranks of sergeant and foremen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensuring their compliance with the equivalent NATO Code column,” the statement reads on the website of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The defense department explained that the new system will enhance the role of sergeants and officers in the training of subordinates, as well as create additional motivational factors for military service under the contract.

On November 9, it became known that Zelensky signed a decree providing for the transition of the country's defense management system to NATO standards by the end of 2019.
