Mediapro considers that the announced attribution of TV rights of the Champions League to Canal + and beIN is "unclear" and is considering a remedy, said Friday the boss of the Hispanic-Chinese group Jaume Roures to AFP.

"Our offer in the second round was very close to the figures announced, it is surprising that no one has asked us to improve," said Jaure Roures.

"It's not clear, we will ask for the documentation of the 1st and 2nd round" of the call for tenders, he announced. "If we have to make an appeal, we will do it".

The French television rights of the Football Champions League for the period 2021-2024 were awarded to Canal + and beIN Sports, TF1 getting the broadcast of the final in the clear, said Friday the daily L'Equipe.

The sporting daily reports that Canal + and the Qatari beIN Sports will spend a record sum of 375 million euros per year for the C1 only, against 315 million euros for the TV rights of the previous period, won by RMC Sport, which would start again this time empty-handed.

Information confirmed by two sources close to the record at AFP.

This award does not "call into question" the channel that Mediapro must create to broadcast Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, whose group won the rights for the period 2020-2024 with beIN Sports, against nearly 800 million euros , maintained Jaume Roures.

The award of the Champions League to its competitors is "not good for viewers," the head of Mediapro. "People will be forced to subscribe in several places, it favors piracy," he said.
