The Fridays for future climate movement is expected to manifest in 135 locations in Sweden during Friday. Ahead of the UN climate summit COP25 in Madrid, which begins on Monday, they have announced a global strike.

- We want politicians to promise to fulfill the Paris agreement. I hope that as many as possible will come and that we will be very many, says Erik Björklund, who is one of the organizers of the climate demonstration in Gothenburg.

At the same time as the climate protests, Black friday is going on. Most stores sell goods and have large promotions - something that many in the climate movement distance themselves from.

- The global strike today is due to the UN's annual climate conference. That is why we have chosen this date. It just happens to coincide with Black Friday, says Erik.

"The planet is burning"

The demonstration will start in the Bältesspännaparken and then go via Avenyn, Östra and Norra Hamngatan to Gustav Adolfs Torg. A manifestation will be held there.

- We stand up for the climate and ourselves. It's about survival. This is the most important issue for our society, ”says Erik.

Large traffic impact

Police expect 10,000 people to participate in the climate demonstration in Gothenburg on Friday. They have also warned the public that accessibility in central Gothenburg will be hampered. The streets where the demonstration train passes will be closed off.

- We are better prepared this time. We have worked closely with the police and West Transport to avoid disrupting public transport. I can understand that people get annoyed if their afternoon is ruined, I have respect for that, but we are fighting for our future, says Erik Björklund.
