November 28, 2019The former chief of staff of Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri, was released by the police after his arrest in connection with the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galicia. The Times of Malta reported. In a statement, the police reported that there were no grounds for further restraining Schembri.

The news emerged shortly after the lawyers of Yorgen Fenech, the entrepreneur suspected of being the instigator of the murder, reported that their client is ready to provide information on Schembri and two other ministers, Konrad Mizzi and Chris Cardona, in change of grace.

Schembri, the police said in a statement, was released from prison after "intense investigations conducted in recent days regarding clues against him for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galicia".

Protested for tomorrow
Keith Schembri's release from prison has surprised and irritated Maltese civil society. For tomorrow evening a protest rally is called, called by the organizing committees that in recent days have managed to gather a crowd of protesters to demand the resignation of the government.
