In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Ebola response teams were attacked again on Wednesday night. Insecurity that complicates the fight against the epidemic, especially in the province of Ituri.

A first attack targeted a World Health Organization (WHO) team's life camp, located in Biakato, last night between midnight and two o'clock in the morning.

According to a first report sent by UN sources, at least three people lost their lives during this incursion: a staff of the Congolese Ministry of Health, as well as two drivers deployed by the WHO. Five people were injured and one is missing. Several vehicles were also burned on site.

The night was also agitated about fifty kilometers away, in Mangina in Beni territory, where an Ebola treatment center was targeted by another attack. This time, it is an assailant who died after the intervention of the security forces who managed to secure the area.

The authorities are currently investigating whether these two almost simultaneous attacks are coordinated. In any case, they threaten the activities of the response once again. Ebola interventions have been paralyzed for a week following violence in the region. In recent days, the World Health Organization has already chosen to transfer to Goma half of its staff usually based in Beni.
