Several dozen activists of environmental movements blocked Thursday afternoon a distribution center of the giant Amazon in the Paris region, to denounce the environmental damage caused by the "overconsumption" related to the "Black Friday" expected Friday.
Between 50 and 100 activists of the ANV-COP21 groups and Friends of the Earth installed straw boots and formed human dams in front of the center of Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne) of the American giant of the distribution and digital, found journalists from AFP.
Some have deployed banners "Amazon: for the climate, for employment, stop expansion, stop overproduction", while others block access for trucks with old appliances or lie on the ground while chaining voluntarily arms with "armlocks" (a process that aims to impede their evacuation, ed). They let in and out of the center.
This action comes on the eve of the "Black Friday" day of promotions from the United States.
Several organizations have called for action in the coming days, including Friday, to protest against the over-consumption induced by this day, as well as the pollution represented by the millions of deliveries it will generate, for products many of which will ultimately be returned, according to these activists.
The controversy rebounded on the political ground, the Minister of the ecological transition Élisabeth Borne having in the wake alerted Monday against "consumption frenzy" and pollution that generates "Black Friday". The Council of Commerce of France, which brings together 31 federations of traders, had deplored these critics and the president of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly Eric Woerth (LR) denounced a "useless controversy".
