The civil funeral ceremony is attended by Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Vyacheslav Makarov, colleagues Verbitskaya.
In his speech, Beglov called Verbitskaya a teacher with a capital letter and noted that she was developing the domestic education system.
After the requiem in the church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, a funeral service will be held. Verbitskaya will be buried in the Northern cemetery.
Lyudmila Verbitskaya died on November 24 at the 84th year of her life. Soviet and Russian linguist-Russian scholar, professor of St. Petersburg State University, in 1994 she became its rector and then president.
