The Ministry of Energy and Industry (MOE) has inaugurated the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center at Khalifa University of Basas Al Nakhl Abu Dhabi, which will support the long-term sustainability plans of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program by launching an innovation platform dedicated to peaceful nuclear energy technology.

The Emirates Nuclear Technology Center contributes to research projects designed and approved by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, which will be implemented by students, academics and researchers at Khalifa University.The initial research projects of the Center will focus on three areas of nuclear safety and systems, and the chemistry and science of nuclear materials. And environmental radiation safety.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was exchanged between the Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, and the Second Deputy Foreign Minister of South Korea, Lee Taihu. The memorandum provides the Center with the opportunity to benefit from the exchange of knowledge and experience with the Korean side, which has a long experience in the development and operation of nuclear power plants, spanning more than 40 years, as well as its experience in the development of nuclear reactors research .

“The launch of the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center in Abu Dhabi is a product of cooperation with our counterparts in the South Korean government and all UAE partners involved in nuclear science and technology research and development,” said Al Mazrouei, stressing that investment in research and innovation is a prerequisite for the sustainability of the peaceful nuclear energy sector. In the long term, the UAE's peaceful nuclear program will be established as an international model for the development of new peaceful nuclear energy projects, through the enhancement of Emirati talent capabilities and industry-leading research covering the region. Barakah Nuclear Power Plants

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has confirmed that the launch of the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center will help establish the UAE as an international model to be pursued by countries seeking to launch new peaceful nuclear energy projects, while innovation and development in the peaceful nuclear energy sector are central to the sustainability of the sector. She pointed out that the signing of the memorandum of understanding with South Korea coincides with the total completion rate in the four stations of the project of nuclear power plants Baraka to more than 93%, where the rate of completion in the fourth station to 82%, and in the third station to 91%, and the second to 95%, while the completion of construction work in the first station and entered the stage of operational preparations, in preparation for obtaining the operating license from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, expected in the beginning of 2020.
