The tragedy occurred Sunday afternoon: in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, where they had just landed, a couple of French was shot dead. Mélina, 41, and Alexandre, 44, went for the first time to the island, scene of violent demonstrations in a tense political and social context. This childless couple was originally from the small village of Saint-Martin d'Ardèche and had been in adoption since 2013, according to the county council of Ardèche.
The woman shot first
This first trip to the island was "a visit of conviviality" and a first contact with the two children who were to come to enlarge their family. The French couple would not have left with the little ones. But just arrived in Port-au-Prince, in the taxi that drove them to the hotel, they are victims of an attempted robbery: according to our information, it is first the woman who is shot, then her companion.
"Everyone liked them"
This tragedy upset the small village of Ardèche where they came from, and where all their family resides. "Melina and Alexandre were very popular and everyone knew them," says a close, shocked. In a statement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs ensures that the French Embassy is "in contact with local authorities so that all the light is made" on this double murder, bringing to 42 the number of dead since the beginning of the clashes on the island.
