Euro-2020 football not affected by sanctions against Russia recommended to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to punish the country for falsifying data transmitted to WADA, AFP said a manager of the agency.

"It's not a + major event + and it's not a world championship", as they are covered by the WADA Compliance Review Committee (CRC) recommendation for sanctions, explained to AFP this manager, who requested anonymity. The 2020 edition, for which Russia is qualified, takes place in twelve cities in twelve countries, including St. Petersburg, which is to host four meetings.

The WADA Executive Committee is scheduled to decide in Paris on December 9 whether it is following the recommendations of its committee, which has advocated the exclusion of Russia from the Olympic Games or World Championships, for four years, leaving the possibility to host selections of Russian athletes under neutral flag.

Russia would not be able to apply for the organization of these events and could be withdrawn the competitions it has already been awarded during this four-year period.

According to a statement issued by WADA on Monday, the CRC estimates that "hundreds" of suspicious anti-doping results have disappeared from the files that Moscow had given to WADA earlier this year, "an extremely serious case".

Regardless of the sanctions decided by the WADA Executive Committee, Russia will have the opportunity to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
