In Senegal, the talibés, these children students in Koranic schools, are numerous to be victims of mistreatment. This Saturday, in a village in rural Louga, north of Dakar, the police arrested a Koranic teacher who chained his students. A practice unfortunately common, which are victims of these young talibés, often forced to beg.

In this case, the six suspects were placed in pre-trial detention on Monday, November 25th. Saturday, all were arrested by the gendarmes in the village of Ndiagne not far from Louga, starting with the Koranic teacher, because it is he who made the decision to chain his students.

The manufacturer of these chains, a metalworker, is also arrested as well as four parents who have consented that these young boys are chained to prevent any leak according to a judicial source. Too many things for Mamadou Wane, coordinator of the platform for the protection of human rights: " I think there was a trauma throughout Senegal. This is an opportunity to denounce this and ask the state to go all the way. We must translate the perpetrators of these acts of torturers, let us say it bluntly, of extremely serious abuse and all those who are guilty. The state must go further. Today, all those who stand in solidarity with this despicable act must be pursued. "

The trial is scheduled for Wednesday. According to NGOs, 100,000 talibé children are still in the streets. They would be 30,000 in the capital alone.
