Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announces that Chief of Staff Keith Schembri is now quitting, Reuters writes. Police sources say Schembri has helped them in the case, but he himself does not want to comment on it.

Schembri was pressured to resign because he was alleged to have financial links with the business executive arrested last week, suspected of being involved in the murder.

Journalist and blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed in a powerful car explosion in a field outside his home in Malta in October 2017.

Harsh criticism

In addition to the company leader who was arrested last week, several other people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder. At the same time, both the government and the police have been harshly criticized for the seriousness of the preliminary investigation, according to the Council of Europe, among others.
