The Umeå areas that the authorities keep an eye on are parts of Ersboda, parts of Ålidhem and parts of Mariehem.

But, for example, the Ersboda murder earlier this year, in which one person was killed and two injured in a settlement should not be seen as the beginning of more organized crime according to the police.

- In Umeå we have no gangs in that sense, but there are loosely composed friends groups that are based on the geographical areas and individuals that we work more towards. But we have no gangs yet as they have in the larger cities, ”says Maria Wictorsson, district police in Umeå.

Gravel and egg throwing

Like other cities, Umeå has started an MBU education for young people. "The Man Behind the Uniform" trains ambassadors to disseminate knowledge and reduce hostility to police, fire brigades and ambulances.

The idea comes from Gothenburg where rescue personnel have been exposed to stone throwing several times. In Umeå, it has so far stopped at gravel and egg throwing, but there are events in certain neighborhoods that worry municipal politicians and police.

"Impaired attitude"

Although there are no so-called vulnerable areas, there have been trends that you want to prevent, explains Kerstin Rörsch, process manager at UmeBrå, who mapped the situation in Umeå.

- The authorities are experiencing a deteriorating attitude from those living in the area, especially young people, says Rörsch.
