Former TV presenter Elsa Martín Olsen, who was a contestant on the reality show La selva de los famoSOS , has been appointed by the Community of Madrid as commissioner of the Government for Animal Welfare. This was one of the positions that Isabel Díaz Ayuso promised to create during the election campaign and that until Tuesday remained vacant.

Linked to the animal world since childhood and with extensive professional experience in this area, Martín Olsen will depend organically on the Ministry of Environment, Land Management and Sustainability. It will have an annual salary of 75,084 euros gross.

Its main task will be to fight against animal abuse and exploitation as well as the abandonment of companion animals, reports Europa Press. In addition, it will promote citizen awareness and awareness campaigns to encourage the adoption of animals and the new communication channel with the protective entities to guarantee the participatory approach of regional policies.

Martín Olsen is a technical assistant and veterinary assistant by the Higher Institute of Studies (ISED) and has a natural dressage course by the Madrid Institute for Rural, Agrarian and Food Research and Development (Imidra) of the Community of Madrid.

Since 2004 he directs the Perruno Campus, a center for canine and equestrian development and rehabilitation, located in Brunete. It is an estate of 30,000 square meters, energy self-sufficient and 100% sustainable where animals can enjoy nature freely.

This project is one of the reasons why the Ministry of Environment has opted for its signing after "valuing several profiles," according to a spokeswoman. In addition, they emphasize that it is "very committed to the animal world".

Martín Olsen became televisedly famous for his participation in 2004 La Selva de los FamoSOS , the name with which Antena 3 issued the sequel to the Telecinco Survivors contest, where it was the second expelled. After leaving the island, that year he posed for Interviú magazine.

Within the Government agreement between PP and Citizens, other measures to promote animals are also included, such as the Strategy against Maltreatment and Abandonment of Pets and the development of all initiatives included in the Law on Protection and Animal Welfare from the Community of Madrid.
