Dortmund (dpa) - Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund will take in the current fiscal year for the first time more than 100 million euros through sponsors. This was announced by Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the BVB Board of Management, in Dortmund at the Company's Annual General Meeting.
In this sum, the new sponsorship deal with the supplier Puma is not yet included, said Watzke before the shareholders. Last week, BVB announced that the contract with Puma was extended to better terms until 2028. According to media reports, the listed football club takes about 30 million euros per year, a total of Puma paid 250 million euros to the Dortmund.
Watzke admitted, as on Sunday at the meeting of the club members a mistake in the squad planning ("We should have to get a second striker"). In the presence of the players' council around captain Marco Reus, Axel Witsel, Mats Hummels and Lukasz Piszczek, the BVB managing director emphasized that they wanted to continue their efforts to achieve the pronounced seasonal goal of the championship. Coach Lucien Favre was apologized by Watzke at the shareholders before the match in the Champions League against FC Barcelona on Wednesday.
