Kolod Fanous works as a mother tongue teacher in Arabic in Karlstad Municipality and on weekends she teaches children from several Warmland municipalities in Arabic.

She is passionate about teaching children her mother tongue and received the award for attracting so many students to language teaching and competition.

- It means a lot and I have a great job to do more with this. I am responsible throughout Sweden for attracting more children to participate in the language competition.

Best both nationally and internationally

In order to participate in "The Arabic Reading Challenge", the children should read 25 books and their ability to analyze, summarize and express themselves if the texts are then graded by judges.

Mahmod Hammad 9 years from Mariestad, who participates in the association's distance learning, first won the national competition and then also the international in competition with students from 20 non-Arabic speaking countries.

Read and write in the home language

The weekend school in Arabic is run in collaboration with the Studyförbundet adult school and is politically and religiously independent. Today, there are operations in Karlstad, Grums, Forshaga and Årjäng - and Filipstad is in luck. The purpose is for children who have Arabic as their home language and other mother tongue to learn to read and write, since many can speak, but not read or write in the language.
