Since the activities that are included in the social services and children and the education administration's areas of responsibility occupy just over 80 percent of Tranås municipality's total budget, this is also where the largest sums are to be saved. And that by pulling down on the staff.

- In order to save on the sizes we need, staff costs must be reduced. Fewer people have to do the same tasks that more people do today. However, we have not said yes to lowering the level of ambition or quality. But the result can be that, says Anders Wilander (M), chairman of the local council.

"The state - take your responsibility"

Anders Wilander believes that a strong contributing reason for Tranå's poor economy is that in recent years, the state has given municipalities responsibilities, such as integrating new arrivals, without adding extra money for the additional costs that this entailed.

He also mentions the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's narrower assessments of the right to assistance compensation, which meant that the municipalities had to take responsibility for those who lost their compensation.

- The last safety net in Sweden is the municipalities and therefore we must incur those costs. But it will be at the expense of something else. So I say to the state - take your responsibility, says Anders Wilander.
