At least six people died Sunday, November 24 in the crash of a small aircraft on a popular area of the city of Goma, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"Six bodies have just been withdrawn. (Relief) teams continue to search," Goma Mayor Timothy Muissa Kiesse told an AFP correspondent.

According to Thomas Nicolon, France 24 correspondent in the DRC, the plane had only taken off for three minutes when it crashed with 17 people on board, including two crew members.

The Dornier-228 aircraft was scheduled to rotate to Beni and Butembo 350 km north of Goma, according to a member of the company. He crashed into one of the densely populated neighborhoods surrounding Goma Airport.

The management is meeting pending the results of a technical survey conducted by a team in the field.

Busy Bee is a recent company that has three aircraft to serve the landlocked areas of the North Kivu province of Beni and Butembo.

"All Congolese companies are on the blacklist of aviation and the DRC has long been famous for its plane crashes. There has been better in recent years. This crash follows that, a few weeks ago, of 'an airplane in which was staff of the presidential administration,' says Thomas Nicolon.
