Tara Ocean and several NGOs expressed their concern Saturday after the executive assured that the generalization of the principle of the deposit of plastic bottles would not happen without the agreement of the mayors.

The spirit of the anti-waste bill and for a circular economy is to have "sorting instructions unique throughout the territory", pleaded Henri Bourgeois Costa, spokesperson for the Tara Foundation, on the return of a scientific expedition on the contamination of European rivers with microplastics.

"If we put the order back to the good will of everyone, we will have a system that will develop differently from one place to another," he continued.

Emmanuel Macron assured this week that "nothing will be done without the agreement of mayors" for the deposit of plastic bottles and Edouard Philippe has driven the nail at the end of the congress of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF). The AMF deduces that "there will be no deposit on plastic packaging".

But for the spokesman of the Tara Foundation, only the deposit on the bottles, whether reused or recycled, would achieve collection rates higher than 90%.

It also highlights the strong demand of the French in this sense.

WWF, Zero Waste and the Surfrider Foundation also believe in a statement that "the decision not to return the deposit to the service of the development of reuse would be very worrying because it would support the status quo, so the aggravation of pollution plastic".

The government is targeting 100% recycled plastics by 2025, a goal that is considered very ambitious.
