Rugby World Cup Organizing Committee Cyber Attack Strengthened measures to Olympic Para. November 23, 13:32

During the Rugby World Cup, which closed this month, it was found that there were at least 12 cyber attacks that sent massive amounts of data to the Organizing Committee system. The policy is to strengthen measures for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

According to government officials, multiple cyber attacks on the Organizing Committee system have been confirmed over the Rugby World Cup Japan Tournament, and a so-called “DDoS attack” that stops the function by sending a large amount of data all at once. The attack was conducted 12 times only during the tournament period.

Also, in order to deceive passwords, many “phishing emails” were sent to the staff to fake the sender.

In both cases, measures such as temporarily blocking the line were taken, so there was no damage that would hinder the operation of the event.

The government will report on the actual state of these cyber attacks at a meeting that gathered people concerned at the beginning of the week, and it will be set up in the Cabinet Secretariat during the Games period as it is feared that attacks will be held at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics next year. We have decided to confirm the strengthening of measures such as bringing the “Security Adjustment Center” ahead of schedule.
