Foreign Minister of Korea Requests a constructive role in the United States to resolve Japan and South Korea's concerns November 23, 19:16

Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa (Kang Kyung-wa) met with the US Deputy Secretary of State Sullivan in Nagoya to explain that he decided to maintain the Japan-Korea Military Information Comprehensive Protection Agreement (GSOMIA). I asked the United States to play a constructive role in resolving issues with Japan.

In line with the G20 meeting of the 20 major foreign ministers in Nagoya City, Korea's Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa and the American Deputy Secretary of State Sullivan met on the 23rd for approximately 30 minutes after 2:30 pm.

According to the announcement by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Kang explained the circumstances behind the decision to maintain the Japan-Korea Military Information Comprehensive Protection Agreement = GSOMIA.

He said, “I will make efforts to resolve the concerns between Japan and Korea as soon as possible” and asked the United States to continue to play a constructive role in the process.

In response, Vice Secretary Sullivan welcomed the fact that the two countries found a reasonable plan through dialogue and expressed their desire to develop cooperation between Japan, the United States and South Korea.

In the meeting, we also exchanged opinions on the expenses of the US military stationed in South Korea, which the United States is seeking to raise, and confirmed that it will continue to communicate closely in the future.
