A day to denounce a phenomenon that still too deeply permeates our society. Today, November 25th, the world day against violence against women is celebrated. Many events and many events opened yesterday by the great demonstration in Rome. And today comes the message from the President of the Republic.

Mattarella: "Violence knows no boundaries or distinctions"
"Violence against women unfortunately does not know geographical boundaries, class or age distinctions: it is inscribed in many individual biographies. In all its forms, up to the murder, it is never a private matter nor merely a consequence of specific circumstances and factors, but it is inscribed in a universal and rooted history of abuse of women ". Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

"Every physical and psychological injury inflicted on a child, girl or woman - underlines the head of state -, any unjustified devaluation of female abilities is a form of ancient oppression that makes women less free, less equal, subordinate, and finally victims".

Overcome discrimination, prejudice, stereotypes
"Discrimination, prejudice or stereotypes about roles and attitudes based on gender belonging must be overcome - continues the Head of State - starting from childhood and in particular from the world of school. Prevention occurs only by continuing to work for a profound cultural transformation that it finds its best outcome in promoting respect and affirming women in society.

Tragic phenomenon, too secretive complaint
In our country the phenomenon of violence against women is still tragically high and his complaint is still too reticent. Therefore, the best conditions must be fostered to overcome this further obstacle, especially in environments - such as work - where it is more difficult ".
