Under the slogan “Generation of Dignity Forward”, the Karama Human Rights Film Festival celebrates its tenth session from December 5 to 12, highlighting a new generation of directors and directors interested in human rights and contemporary issues.

The course, which culminates in a decade of the festival, which began in 2010, focuses on the aspirations of youth, gender equality and the social impact of tidal revolutions over 10 years.

It also addresses the leadership of social change, refugee and displacement issues, the rights of children and their protection from conflict and war zones, the environment and its issues and the role of youth in raising awareness about these problems that are rising every year.

This edition witnesses a human rights film marathon by showing 100 films over eight days in ten Jordanian cities besides Amman, Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash, Salt, Zarqa, Rusaifa, Madaba, Karak, Maan and Aqaba.

As for the tenth session of the festival, director Sawsan Darwazah, director of the Karama Festival for Human Rights Films, said: `` To continue this festival throughout these years is a real achievement for him, organizing an international event focusing on human rights issues that enabled him to leave his mark for generations through distinctive programming of films in the Kingdom. ''

Darwazeh adds that "Karama Festival is centered around the humanitarian issue and its essence. The film is used as a serious awareness and educational tool for the diligent audience, and opens the doors for questioning and research in new ways."

Since its inception, the Karama Festival has been keen to adopt a different theme every year and a contemporary human dimension, reflecting the political and social changes experienced by young people and formed a visual element in its cinematic choices, including change, displacement, extremism, terrorism, art, humanity, social participation, support, unity and others.

The festival has five similar versions in Arab countries - Palestine, Mauritania, Lebanon, Tunisia and Yemen. He also has an award for film support called the “Anhar International Award”, born in 2016 to support the best films on human rights issues in the Arab region.

The director of the festival, Ihab Al-Khatib, explained that “Karama Human Rights Festival has worked throughout its previous sessions to keep abreast of the latest film productions and monitor the transitions through it, which allows the presentation of films of value to the public and linked to the theme chosen. Forward "The summary of all previous sessions reflects the vision for which the festival was founded and will continue along these lines."

As an international festival, Karama receives around 800 films annually through applications for competition in its various competitions and sections. About 500 films have been screened over the past nine years from 66 countries.

Artistic Director Ihab Al Khatib added that this course “honors the first generation of dignity of its kind in the Arab world of young people who are aware of human rights issues, where it witnessed selections for Arab films that care and address their issues and the issues of the whole region.

Lab 612 for ideas
The 612 Ideas Workshop is organizing this course in partnership with the European Union and the Royal Cultural Center as a strategic partner through the screening of 100 films, including feature-length, short and animated documentaries on human rights and issues.

Lab 612 is a group of thinkers and practitioners working in different sectors and disciplines who work on designing innovative projects based on specific issues related to the Arab world. Through her role as an incubator for intellectuals and artists, she works to help them engage in work and creative thinking.
