The Austrian press has just revealed that the far-right party FPÖ was holding gold bullion in a pension in Tyrol, in the west of the country. The formation denies any illegality.

The case was revealed by the Austrian weekly Profil . It dates from last August when the police raided a peaceful pension in Tyrol where the cadres of the extreme right party FPÖ had their habits. She discovers three locked cassettes containing several gold bars each weighing 500 grams. At the current price of gold, such an ingot is worth more than 21,000 euros. However, it is not known how many ingots were found on site.

Since then, the "secret treasure of the FPÖ" has delighted tabloids and social networks. The liberal party Neos has asked the far right for " transparency " on this issue, ironically about a party that protects his gold from the " end of the world ." The Social Democrats have made a request to the Minister of Justice to see if there are signs of money laundering, reports our correspondent in Vienna, Isaure Hiace .

The extreme right, she swears that everything is legal. Vienna FPO leader Dominik Nepp explained that the party had bought the bullots at the time of the 2008 financial crisis in order to protect itself from economic turbulence. " Everything is completely legal, " he said. But these explanations do not convince the opposition.

This is yet another affair for the FPÖ, six months after that of the Ibizagate which caused the collapse of the government it had formed since 2017 with the conservatives of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and led to early parliamentary elections . Originally, the disclosure of a compromising video in which its leader, Heinz-Christian Strache, was ready to offer public contracts in exchange for hidden funding. Since his resignation from all his mandates, including that of Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Strache has been implicated by allegations about his expensive lifestyle. The FPÖ lost 10 points in the September legislative elections.
