Many people talk about electric air travel being the future when climate emissions are to be reduced. But today, electric aircraft are mostly at the test stage. In addition, the vehicles need to be tested in winter environments and severe weather.

Jämtland County and Tröndelag are perfect for this, says those who have now started the Green Flyway project.

- Here you have to pass a mountain range and can encounter many different types of weather during a flight, says regional politician Karin Thomasson (MP).

International interest

The electric flights will be tested between Östersund, Röros and Trondheim. Autonomous aircraft, ie drones, will also be tested. The adaptation of airports to electric power must also be investigated. Several international players have already expressed interest in testing their techniques in the area.

Already on December 3, the first electric aircraft will arrive in Sveg where it will be tested in colder climates.
