We know a little more about the latest ambush of jihadists against the Malian Armed Forces in Tabankort, south of Menaka. Defeated by the attackers on Monday, the Malian military had to abandon on the battlefield, in the valley of Tabankort, the bodies of 30 of their comrades. They were Nigerian soldiers, left to give a hand to the Malian army, who discovered them and brought them, in body bags, in Nigerian territory.

It is a battalion of 850 men aboard some sixty vehicles and armored vehicles, during a raking in the Tabankort valley, who discovered and sent to the garrison of Tiloa the bodies of 30 Malian soldiers abandoned on the battlefield by their comrades. The bodies were then transported by land to Ouallam and finally transported to Mali by Barkhane planes last Tuesday.

From the same sources, we learn that four seriously wounded were evacuated by a US Tiloa helicopter to the reference hospital in Niamey. To succeed in this operation of time, the aerial coverage was provided by two reconnaissance aircraft sorties and an American drone.

As for the 100 Malian soldiers who retreated into Nigerian territory, they are still lodged with weapons and luggage in the garrison of Tiloa. Among their equipment, thirteen vehicles including five mounted heavy armored and an ambulance.

Safe sources will remain in Tiloa pending changes in the tone of the situation on the ground. According to concordant sources, since the beginning of November, Niger has projected three additional battalions along its insecure borders. Significant military assets and US armored detectors are engaged.

And yesterday, Thursday, a patrol of the Malian army recovered the bodies of 13 other Malian soldiers, killed also during the attack on Monday.
