The sales value of medicines that were prescribed by a veterinarian was just over SEK 1 billion last year. The largest sales were Västra Götaland, SEK 280 million, according to statistics from the E-Health Authority.

"The treatment of pets has become much more modern and is more and more similar to human health care," Kinfe Girma, pharmaceutical manager at the Swedish Agricultural Agency, told the Siren News Agency.

Today, treatment methods are more advanced than before and the use of more effective drugs and anti-inflammatory drugs has increased.

Most veterinarians' prescriptions, 65 percent, are printed on dogs. Then cats and horses follow.

Animal antidepressants have also increased. Lis-Marie Johansson, clinic veterinarian from Bredaryd and who works at Anicura Animal Hospital Jönköping tells more in the clip below.
