“The decision to ban the relay of nine Russian channels in Latvia is another manifestation of“ freedom of speech ”in Latvian. In the uncompromising fight against dissent, which is taking on ever more perverted forms, the Latvian authorities are not shy about using strict censorship, blocking objectionable media outlets with far-fetched pretexts, ”the statement said.

The Russian Embassy stated that such a frank disrespect for the principles of democracy in Latvia is already becoming the norm.

Earlier, the Permanent Mission of Russia to the OSCE commented on the decision of the Latvian authorities to suspend the broadcast of nine Russian channels.
