It was during Wednesday's municipal council that politicians decided that Karlskrona municipality should work to conclude a so-called idea-based public partnership (IOP) with the women's shelter.

"This type of partnership allows us to have a more equal relationship with civil society and a reciprocity of expectations and commitments," said Peter Johansson (S), chairman of the social committee in a press release.

Will guarantee support

The hope is that a partnership will guarantee long-term financial support, which in turn provides the opportunity for long-term planning. The proposal for the partnership initially came in a motion from Carl-Göran Svensson (M).

"It is important that the women and children are put in the first room and we must utilize the commitment and work of the Women's Youth," says Carl-Göran Svensson (M), in the press release.

"Important with collaboration"

Today, Karlskrona Municipality enters with ten crowns per inhabitant, approximately SEK 670,000 annually, to the women's shelter.

How big the financial support can be if a partnership is concluded is unclear, but Ulrika Bodin, operations manager at the women's newspaper in Karlskrona, has previously told SVT News Blekinge that she is looking forward to the proposal.

- Collaboration is important. If we receive increased grants, we can ensure that more women and children receive the protection and support they are entitled to. At present, we do not have sufficient resources to utilize all the skills and knowledge we are on, Ulrika Bodin has previously told SVT.
