“Legislation aimed at undermining the economic foundations of the drug business needs further development,” said Smurov during a meeting of the State Duma’s committee on security and anti-corruption.
Smurov noted that at present, the need to prove the origin of property is mandatory only for civil servants.
According to him, the Constitutional Court of Russia has confirmed the possibility of applying to the state’s income the property of other persons acquired by criminal means.
“Obviously, there is a need to work on this issue in relation to other categories of citizens violating the laws of Russia,” he said.
According to him, it is also necessary to amend the Criminal Code of Russia to toughen the punishment for the propaganda of drugs on the Internet.
Smurov also said that in the Ministry of Internal Affairs from 2020 there will be units for combating drugs on the Internet.
