The Michelin Guide 2020 for Spain and Portugal on Wednesday added "El Cenador de Amós" in the north of Spain to its list of three-star restaurants, while Basque chef Martín Berasategui has seen his record increase with two new restaurants rewarded.

Chef Jesús Sánchez, already in the Cantabria region, now has two stars and is now part of the exclusive three-Michelin-starred club for the Iberian Peninsula, which includes only eleven restaurants, the institution said. his gala in Seville.

"El Cenador de Amós" serves a cuisine signed in an eighteenth century mansion located in Villaverde de Pontones, a village near Santander.

The ceremony also crowned Basque chef Martín Berasategui, who saw two new star restaurants, the "Ola" in Bilbao and "Fifty Seconds" in Lisbon.

Berasategui already had 10 stars last year in five establishments, including three stars for the restaurant that bears his name in Lasarte-Oria near San Sebastián, and three stars also at Lazarte, which he heads with chef Paolo Casagrande at Barcelona.

During the ceremony, Michelin's commercial director for Spain and Portugal recalled that more than 100 million tourists visit these two countries each year, "and we estimate that 15% of them come for gastronomy".
