These are a number of different measures against gang crime linked to the 34-point program - from witness protection to stricter penalties - to be analyzed by an investigation that the government is now appointing. The news was presented on Thursday by Morgan Johansson (S), Minister of Justice and Migration.

Will investigate evidence on testimony

The investigators will, among other things, review three measures linked to testimony, something that the government has previously presented.

- It should pay for a suspect to cooperate with the police and it should also be punishable if you don't, says Morgon Johansson during the press conference.

It is about examining the introduction of the Crown witnesses, the possibility to testify anonymously and to see how the support for witnesses and their relatives can be sharpened.

"If you lie in a trial it will have consequences"

In addition, the investigation will also propose stricter penalties for abuse of court proceedings, sentences and protection of criminals. They will also review the need for changes to the testimonies provided during a preliminary investigation.

- If you lie in a trial, it must have consequences, says Morgan Johansson.

Special investigator will be Justice Council Stefan Johansson. In May 2021, they will submit proposals to the government.

The 34-point program was presented by the government at the end of September this year. The proposal is divided into four areas: New tools to work against crime, new penalties for criminals, solutions to get more people to testify, and preventive measures.
