- Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, fireworks factory explosion: 5 dead, 2 injured

21 November 2019"We proceed for multiple negligent homicide, culpable fire, for disaster. It is a long investigation that will lead us to verify the safety of the workplace". This was stated by the prosecutor of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Emanuele Crescenti, in reference to the tragedy of the barrel factory which caused 5 deaths and two seriously injured. The work of securing the factory and carried out by an external company, had been arranged, the magistrate explained, "by the committee of the prefecture and the police headquarters which periodically verifies these findings: all the companies and in particular these companies are at risk there are subjected, and among the prescriptions there was also that of carrying out these works ". Then he stressed: "This is a death for work - he continues - in 2020 we die to be able to work, it's the saddest thing".
The first rescuers have found devastation
"One of the huts that was in reinforced concrete is non-existent and the shock wave coming out of this hut caused another explosion; another shed was destroyed, while two others were heavily affected. Ms. Costa first victim was in another of the huts, was hit by the shock wave, the son had not been hit by the event, but he tried to save his mother and he suffered very serious injuries and is in Palermo in serious conditions".
