Swedish trade believes that 20 to 30 percent of stores will profit within the next few years. And the reason that many stores do not survive is that more and more people make their purchases online.

- You might want to buy something that is not in a store in Jönköping and order it online, says Anja Larsson.

However, Anna Bjurenius still makes most of the purchases in town. She thinks it's boring with rooms that are empty.

- But it feels like a natural development. It's just to find yourself in it, she says.

"People want to hang out"

Jesper Steen, CEO of Jönköping City is concerned. The trend with shops leaving the city has gone faster than predicted.

- The physical grocery shopping has been really tough, both in Jönköping and in other cities. I suffer with many who struggle every day.

For example, Jesper Steen believes in investing more in places where people can meet, a solution to keep the city center alive.

- We are extremely eager to meet and socialize, more now than ever.

He also has additional thoughts on the city's survival, which he tells about in the clip above.
