The judicial inquiry began after Trump was accused of holding on to military aid Ukraine to force the President of Ukraine to launch an investigation into Joe Biden's son, who has done business in Ukraine. Joe Biden is one of the favorites to become the Democrats candidate in the next presidential election, ie a potential opponent of Donald Trump in the election.

Today, EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland testifies. In his opening speech, Sondland describes the trips around the events for which Trump risks national law. He describes how there were clear demands for Ukraine's new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to carry out the investigations requested by Donald Trump against Zelensky being invited to the White House. He says that Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been pushing the question for Trump.

Counteracted by the White House

He also says that the White House has prevented him from gathering the material he needed to answer the investigators' questions in a complete and correct way.

Sondland has previously provided a testimony. But has later been criticized for not giving all the necessary details.

Did not want to work with Giuliani

Gordon Sondland says he and the other diplomats he worked with in his contacts with Ukraine did not want to work with Rudy Giuliani. But he followed the president's orders and assisted Giuliani in his work.

During the investigation, witnesses said that there was an official and unofficial communication channel between the United States and the Government of Ukraine. Sondland has been accused of being part of the unofficial channel, something he denies. Sondland instead refers to communication with authorities in the United States about the work they performed.

The investigations Trump wanted

In the July 25 phone call where Trump should have asked Zelenskiy to launch two investigations, which, according to Trump's critics, would favor Trump politically.

One would be about his political opponent Joe Biden and his son. The other would investigate a conspiracy theory formulated by Trump supporters that it was Ukraine, not Russia, interfering in the 2016 US election.
