Screen-free is the theme of this year's Christmas present, which is selected by HUI Reserach for the 32nd year in a row. This year, the choice fell on the mobile box, but the background of an intensified debate about how connected life affects us as people. This is stated by Emma Hernell, Vice President of HUI Reserach.

- The mobile phone has become an integral part of our lives which has meant a lot of positive things. But 2019 became the year when more and more people began to reflect on its negative consequences in our lives. We see an increased need to reduce both their own but also children's screen time, says Emma Hernell.

"The box can be anything"

Among other things, she mentions Anders Hansen's acclaimed summer talk in P1 as an example of the current debate. Among other things, the chief physician and author talked about how a digital lifestyle affects the brain, and the section what got the most podcast listeners of all in this year's "Summer in P1".

- The mobile box is a symbol of our new approach to the mobile phone, where more and more people are questioning how much we use it, says Emma Hernell.

Do you think that Swedes want to buy a physical box to reduce their screen time?

- I think many feel a need to agree to put away the mobile phone sometimes. Then the box can be a help for that. The box itself can really be anything - something the kids have done in the craft, a shoe box, or one of the special mobile boxes that are available in the trade.

Björklund received a mobile box from Sjöstedt

A home-made mobile box appeared in Parliament in June this year, when the Liberals' former party leader Jan Björklund was thanked by his party leader colleagues. V leader Jonas Sjöstedt handed over a gift in the form of a wooden box with space for both mobile and reading board, which his children made on the wooden craft.
