It has been over two years since the Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb. Recently, three men were charged with the murder and as late as Thursday another man was arrested.

The arrested suspect is said to have acted as an intermediary between those who carried out the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and those who ordered the murder.

Now, Reuters reports that Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wants to pardon the man - if he reveals who is really behind the deed.

The man must have been part of a group arrested in connection with an investigation into money laundering.

"When Caruana Galizia was killed I promised to do everything and he, who he is now, will not go free," says the Prime Minister, according to Reuters.

The Council of Europe is critical

The Times of Malta magazine also reports that the arrested man fears for his life if sentenced to prison.

The Council of Europe has previously criticized the police for the investigation into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

- I am concerned that the authorities may have rejected evidence that could lead to the person who ordered the murder. I am also concerned that neither the suspected perpetrator, his lawyer, nor anyone else - including the alleged intermediary - has been adequately protected, Pieter Omtzigt, who leads the Council of Europe's investigation, has previously told The Guardian.
